Term: Projection
Definition (Myers): psychoanalytic defense mechanism by which people disguise their own threatening impulses by attributing them to others.1
Definition (alternative): the unconscious act of denial of a person's own attributes, thoughts, and emotions, which are ascribed to the outside world, like the weather, the government, a tool or another person or people.2
Contextual explanation: Defensing yourself by attributing to others. For instance, you like flowers but you don't want others to know it. So when you and your friends go to flower shop, you "say" that your friend like it, instead of revealing that you like it.
