| Definition (Myers):The principle that frustration - the blocking of an attempt to achieve some goal - creates anger, which can generate aggression. 1 |
| Definition (alternative): When people are prevented from achieving their goal, their frustration turns to aggression and anger. 2 |
| Contextual explanation: This principle is basically the idea that certain stimulus can cause hostility and aggression. A good example of a stimulus that causes excessive aggression is hot weather. The textbook quotes that 'When people are hot, they think, feel and act more aggressively.' It was also stated that crime rates were higher during certain days that had hot weather. Basically, just like hot weather, there is a lot of stimuli that causes certain levels of aggression. It can be personal or generic, for example, personally I have something against being smelly and dirty. If someone disturbs me when I am hot or sweaty, my specific stimulus, I usually overly aggressive. |
